The Simple Things
By Claudine Ware
It's been a year since my breast cancer diagnosis. What’s changed for me? People ask this question of cancer survivors all the time. “Are you eating differently?”, “Are you making different choices?”, “Do you look at life differently?”. It’s almost as if they believe I have entered some other dimension…some other world. I look at life the same. I'm just more conscious of living it.

My “what is this all for?” is living all of it… Living in the moment and savoring every morsel. Surrounded by people I love, taking in my children’s laughter, catching a glimpse of that big, beautiful moon beaming through the trees, the patter of the rain, humming along to my favorite song on the radio. I guess I am more in awe of it all.

Those simple moments are “what it’s all for”, nothing more, nothing extraordinary, nothing overly special…..just the simple things. Taking it all in. Breathing a little deeper, hugging a little longer, laughing a little louder, staying a little longer.

I am glad I can stay a little longer and enjoy the simple things.
